Bharata Natyam for all ages
Anjali feels honored to teach, perform, and contribute to the evolution of this Classical dance form, which originated in the temples of South India. A desciple of Smt. Viji Prakash, Anjali passes on the Tanjore style of Bharata Natyam, from the lineage of Natuvuanaar Kuppiah Pillai, founder of the Sri Raja Rajeshwari Bharata Natya Kala Mandir in Mumbai, where Smt. Viji studied with her Guru, Kalyanasundaram.
Born and raised in the U.S, Anjali's approach to teaching is grounded in traditional roots but also informed by her extensive study of Yoga, Modern Dance, and other Mind-Body centering techniques, which she integrates into her classes and workshops.
Bharata Natyam: Approaches to Abhinaya: An Eastern approach to theatre and dance. Explore how theatre and dance come together in the most popular Classical dance of India - Bharata Natyam. In this workshop, students will learn how rhythm, coordination, and gestures combine with music to form meaning. The first half of the workshop will focus on pure movement and spatial dynamics using the body while the second half will involve the students working in small groups to interpret lines of poetry using their faces, emotions, and hand gestures of Bharata Natyam.
Anjali's Yoga classes emphasize Yoga as a way of life. Her personalized sessions combine Asanas (pyhsical postures/proper alignment) and breath work and are informed by Iyengar and Desikachar's teachings. These moving meditations help us to move with greater ease, improve flexibility, coordination and balance, reduce stress, tension, and fatigue, and overall enhance and promote a greater quality of life. She also teaches Yoga for Dancers, which focuses on injury prevention, range of motion, and finding balance between strength and flexibilty.
Contemporary Indian Dance

Emphasis will be on discovering new ways of movement expression and making meaning through rhythm, gesture, and emotion
Drawing from Bartenieff fundamentals and post modern release technique, this class emphasizes body alignment and articulation, movement dynamics, breath, and musicality, all of which will strengthen kinesthetic awareness and increase movement efficiency.
